(02) 9188 0544First appointment: $99

Foot pain can affect people of all ages and activity levels. It may develop suddenly following an injury or gradually due to overuse, changes in activity, footwear or age-related changes. Because many foot conditions can cause similar symptoms, a thorough assessment is essential to identify the source of your pain and guide the most effective treatment.

Common causes

  • Plantar FasciitisIrritation of the tissue on the sole of the foot, commonly causing heel or arch pain with the first few steps in the morning or after periods of rest.
  • Heel SpursBony growths that may be associated with plantar heel pain, although they are not always the direct cause of symptoms.
  • Achilles TendinopathyIrritation or degeneration of the Achilles tendon, causing pain and stiffness at the back of the heel and ankle.
  • Posterior Tibial TendinopathyIrritation of the tendon that supports the arch of the foot, often causing pain along the inside of the foot and ankle.
  • Peroneal TendinopathyIrritation of the tendons on the outside of the foot and ankle, commonly seen in runners and after ankle sprains.
  • Sever's DiseaseA common cause of heel pain in growing children and adolescents, particularly those involved in running and jumping sports.
  • Tarsal Tunnel SyndromeCompression of the nerve on the inside of the ankle, which may cause pain, tingling, burning or numbness in the foot.
  • Morton's NeuromaThickening of tissue around a nerve between the toes, often causing burning pain, tingling or the feeling of standing on a pebble.
  • Stress FracturesSmall cracks in the bones of the foot caused by repetitive loading, commonly affecting runners and active individuals.
  • ArthritisWear and tear or inflammation of the joints in the foot, leading to pain, stiffness and reduced mobility.
  • Bunions (Hallux Valgus)A progressive change in the position of the big toe that can cause pain, swelling and difficulty wearing certain footwear.
  • Flat Feet (Pes Planus)Reduced arch support that may contribute to foot pain, fatigue or altered lower limb mechanics.
  • Referred PainSometimes foot pain originates from the ankle, lower leg or lower back rather than the foot itself.
