Microsuction is a quick, water-free method used by audiologists and ENT clinicians. The ear canal is viewed under magnification throughout, so wax is lifted out under direct vision rather than flushed out blind. Most people find it comfortable, and it suits most types of wax.
Our accredited audiologists also use irrigation or manual removal where that suits your ears better, so the canal is fully cleared before your appointment ends.

A GP's free ear care is usually irrigation, a water-based method where water is sprayed into the ear canal in the hope that the wax washes out with it. Wax that has hardened often will not shift with water alone. Microsuction is a specialised technique: we remove the wax with a medical suction device while viewing the canal under magnification, without flushing the ear.
